Young kids like to dream about what they want to be when they grow up.

But kids, when they get a bit older, think more seriously about their futures. That’s the reason behind Dreams of Being and why I wanted to write the series. My goal here, through these seven books, is to introduce kids to adults who are working in the careers these kids are interested in.

For instance, in the first book, future dentist Aralyn is paired with a real-life dentist. Aralyn interviews her and asks her lots of questions about her job. Aralyn finds out that choosing this profession requires years of work and dedication and that the path isn’t easy.

And that’s true with every profession we explore in the other six books.

My hope is that when your child reads these books, they will learn that dreams are one thing but the real challenge, and the real joy, is in achieving them.

I hope these books will inspire and delight your child. I’ll be rooting for them.

Penelope comes to writing after three decades in showbiz, where she started as production manager for big-name TV commercials. She then moved into production accounting, where her portfolio includes everything from blockbusters to indies. Penelope’s first book, Intro to Production Accounting: The Clerk, has been helping newcomers to the field find their feet since 2000. With Dreams of Being, a children’s series about following your dreams – no matter how far away they seem – Penelope hopes to do the same for tomorrow’s professionals.
